Erin & Kailyn O'Connell (Soundwatch Volunteers)

The Luna Stewardship Project has 2 volunteers, Erin O'Connell and her son Kailyn, from Soundwatch, up at Gold River giving us daily updates.

Reported sightings of Luna near Victor Island area from the usual sources (log crews, Air Nootka etc.) Veins of Life Watershed Society was up on Sun and Mon to do some work on the trailer and boat etc. It was a slow weekend, wet and not too much traffic

Early morning reports from 2 individuals from GR that a new rumor of Luna being shot yesterday were floating around the community, they came down to the dock to check on him and reported to Air Nootka and Erin. Erin reported this to me (Kari) and I called Garth, who then called Alberto of the Uchuck and they were alerted to keep an eye out for him on this morning's trip. Shortly thereafter, Garth received a call back from the Uchuck reporting that they had seen him between Victor and Jacklah Bay and that he was following them and looked to be in fine shape. Erin also received a report from Wayne Mangles from Houston River that Luna was seen there later in the morning and that he looks fine. Feel free to call Wayne for sightings if we need to: 283-7774.
Thanks everybody for the information flow. Erin was able to squash further rumors from spreading through out the day. As it was pretty wet, not too many folks down to see him, although there was a trickle trough out the day.

Luna followed a boat into the dock early this am, and then hung around for a while before moving off towards Victor. Then he showed up again around 11am as the Uchuck was tying up-they had not seen him following them into GR. The crew reported that he followed them yesterday for about an hour or so before leaving them near Silverado. The crew got quite a good look at him apparently and Donna from the Uchuck reMr.ed that she thought he had a new (minor) scratch on his eye patch and that he was less active than she remembers him being before (she used the term "lethargic") but that he does not have bullet wounds, and he seems fine.
Luna did not hang out at the dock long this morning and is milling about somewhere near Victor Island.
Erin will keep a close watch on the dock today and will report if he spends more time there.

4/16 Wed. Last evening around 6-ish L-98 came back to the dock at GR and stayed for a few hours, rubbing extensively on the small green boat he had followed into the dock earlier that morning and swimming under and around the pier and over to the Uchuck. Very few people around and Erin kept a low profile. He left headed towards Victor Island.

No sightings as of 12:00 today, the Uchuck left the dock at 7am without him following and no observations. Very few visitors to see L-98 as it is still raining, however a man came down to get some information because he is writing a children's book about Luna. Erin took down his contact info. Not sure where/who to pass him on to.
