1300 5 miMr.es after we arrive, Luna arrives, accompanying a 20 foot fishing
boat. Operator has cut engine and Luna is pushing them around. WE
communicate with them and help them get onto the dock. They are from
Calgary- werent' aware of Luna and had been very scared when he approached.
They were very cooperative and left the dock immediately. Luna continued to
rub their boat for approx. 1 hour.

1715 14' Runabout attempts to dock- Luna pushes them. Steve helps them in
and provides instructions on how to leave. Luna really likes this boat!

1727 Boat ties up to dock. It's obvious operator knows what she's doing.

1730 Man who says his father owns boat doesn't cooperate and escorts
American tourists to the boat for picture taking (15 mins) Steve goes down
and talks to them again and maybe got some better understanding.

1745 Talk to Kagollo II up top. Little boy says he heard on radio that Luna
is deranged- a bad whale- but he's known Luna since he got here and that it'
s not true. He is worried they will put him in a tank.

1805 Yellow 25' older Sea Ray passes by. Luna Follows- They talk and
whistle, try to touch him. We holler from docks but not sure they hear us

1835 4 Men from Washington come to docks to leave on boat moored here. They
are not familiar with Luna. We provide assistance on how to leave. They
leave successfully.

1840 Uchuck arrives. Lots of people come to docks. All stay up top and are
supportive.

1910 Fishing boat electrical is fixed and they head out. Luna follows.

A beautiful sunny day and a very quiet night

Saturday July 19, 2003

1000 Luna shows up at the docks. Steve takes zodiac- Saillboat engaging with
Luna. He explains how to disengage and they do.

1200 Luna spent much of the past 2 hours on the ferry side of the dock.

1230 3 Teenage boys stay up on the top dock but start throwing rocks. They
stop when asked.

1330 Out on Zodiac- Sailboat needs assistance. Luna is gone by the time we
got there.

1430 Help Sailboat secure onto docks. He invites us onto his boat.
Introduces himself as resident of Gold River. Tells us it's a government
dock and they can't stop us from using it- we pay taxes. Says the whale is
wrecking his rudder, but doesn't seem to negative about Luna.

1445 Yellow 25' older sea ray (Same one as yesterday) comes by close to
dock, heading towards launch. There are several kids on board, all hanging
out, banging on the side of the boat and calling Luna. He comes. We holler
at them to disengage but they don't.

1515 We leave for Gas

1700 Two 24' fishing boats. Luna pushes both around and spyhops around one.
4 People talking to him but not touching him. We help them onto dock. It
Takes awhile.

1730 Kayaker comes into dock. We assist. Luna is there but does not -not
even once- make contact with the kayak.

1830 Luna heads out on his own.

2100 We head for "The Hilton"-trailer

Rained heavily all day.

Sunday July 20, 2003

0900 All quiet at dock. No sign of Luna or his fans.

1000 Out on Zodiac. Spot Luna just southwest of Victoria we watch him feed
for 2 hours. While we are floating out there, a hummingbird comes over. I
guess it was the yellow of on the boat and the red on us. In the end, he
does not find us to his liking and flies off.

1230 All folks stay on Uchuck side and cooperative

1430 AG Ford West Forest Services Dock- Luna is with us.

1645 Luna comes over to these docks. Most of his time is spent rubbing a
small blue and white boat. All stay on Uchuck side and are quiet and
supportive.

1715 Air Nootka arrives. Luna follows and rubs against the airline docks

1800 Luna follows a boat going by.

2030 WE head for the Hilton. It's been a very busy non-stop day answering
visitor's questions. I think I'll order room serviceJ

Notes:
Constable Graham arrives with our stolen signs- now recovered.
Yellow 24' SeaRay goes by 2 or 3 times- Always with different passengers.
Lots of boats went back and forth from the launch.
Gold River residents tell us the media has criticized residents for caring
for Luna- They are upset. They have a picture of lots of kids on dock and
will email it to us

There was non-stop boat traffic to and from the boat launch- Slowed
considerably on Monday.

Monday July 21, 2003
0900 We head out on the Zodiac- Overcast as far as Mooyah Bay. No sign of
Luna

1100 Back to Dock- Sun is out. No sign of Luna.

1730 We leave for town.
2045 We hear Luna breathing We go down to the docks. He's followed the AG
Ford (into Uchuck spot) in again.

Another Sunny and Hot day. Way less traffic to and from the boat launch.
People more spread out so we're able to answer more questions.
Wind picked up about 1300 and howled all night and into the next morning.
Sam from the first nations thanks us "for helping protect our whale"

Tuesday July 22, 2003
1100 Out on Zodiac. No sign of Luna.

1730 Just phoning to check about jackets and were planning to leave but Luna
arrived at the docks. We decided not to leave until the replacements got
here.

1930 Replacements arrive
