American Widgeon (Anas americana)

Description: The males have a white crown, forehead and rump. The head also has a deep green patch on it and the rest of the body is brownish. The females are a drab brown colour. Both sexes have a white breast, large white wingpatches and blue bills with dark tips.

Range: Alaska, western Canada and the northern United States. They overwinter in northern South America and the West Indies.

Habitat: Found in large grassy areas, marshes, lakes and bays.

General: These ducks feed mainly on grasses, sedges and marine algae.
