Barn Swallow (Hirundo rustica)

Description: Has a blue back with cinnamon below and a redder throat. Also a long, forked tail with white spots.

Range: Widespread throughout the Northern Hemisphere. Winters in Costa Rica, Argentina, Africa and southern Asia.

Habitat: Found in open to semi-open land such as fields, parks, cliffs and lakes.

General: This bird builds cup-like nests in buildings, beneath bridges and beneath the eaves of houses. It may raise two broods a year and feeds on flying insects.
