Cooper's Hawk (Accipiter cooperii)

Description: Short wings and a long tail, compared to body size. Dark blue-grey back and a barred, rufous chest and belly. The underside of the tail is light banded with grey and the tip of the tail is rounded. It has a dark cap on the head and light, rusty cheeks.

Range: Southern Canada to northern Mexico.

Habitat: Found in mixed woodlands and river groves.

General: A predator of small birds. It builds its stick nests in large trees.
