Heermann's Gull (Larus heermanni)
Description: A medium-sized gull with a prominent red bill and a dark grey back, black tail and black legs.
Range: Western Canada to Mexico. Breeds in northwestern Mexican islands.
Habitat: Seacoasts and nearby open ocean. Often roosts on floating kelp beds.
General: Not a resident on Vancouver Island, this gull mainly visits in late summer and fall, before returning to Mexico.
