Fisher (Martes pennanti)
Description: A member of the weasel family, has sleek, dark brown fur, pointed nose and short, rounded ears. Males can weigh up to 12 pounds, occasionally up to 20 pounds. Females generally half the size of males.
Habitat: Wooded areas, both deep woods and near towns.
Feeding: Mostly omnivorous, preying on flying squirrels, red squirrels, mice, snowshoe hares, porcupines, beaver kits, chipmunks, martens, mountain beavers, birds, frogs, insects, spawned-out salmon and trout, also consumes nuts and berries.
General: Form established corridors over which they travel repeatedly. Have a swivel joint in the hind ankle that allows it to descend trees headfirst.
