Marten (Martes americana)
Description: A member of the weasel family, has a pointed snout and round, large ears. Weighs from 1.5 to 2.75 pounds. Colour is variable between animals and seasons, but the most common colour is yellowish or golden brown, with an orange-yellow patch covering the throat and chest, and darker brown on the legs.
Habitat: Northern woodland.
Feeding: Mainly carnivorous, preying on squirrels, chipmunks and other small rodents, also birds and fish. When abundant, will also consume fruit.
General: Dens are usually located in places such as hollow trees, on the ground under the snow or in rock crevices.
